SSF Junior Series Event #5 – Sandend Event Report & Final Series Standings

The 2022 SSF Junior Series finale was held at Sandend Beach, hosted by the Moray Firth Surf Riders, on the 22nd and 23rd of October in epic conditions.

  • U18 Boys Finalists

There was a see saw of victory between Israel Noble (BSC) and local surfer Ben Kobedza (MFSR) in the U14s and U16 Boys divisions. Israel got the better of Ben in the U14s with a 15.67pts heat total but Ben answered back in the U16s utilising his lethal backhand which has been honed on the Sanine lefts to take the win.

No surprises in the U16 and U18 girls with Lola Mitchell (BSC) taking the double. The much improved Olivia MacKay (NSSC) took the runner up spot in the U16 girls and young Callie Cruickshank (BSC) surfed well to take runner up in the U18s.

With the absence of U18 Boys series winner Craig McLachlan (NSSC), the U18 Boys division was wide open. Finn Clark (EBSC) controlled the majority of the final but it would be on form goofy footer Ebon Parkin (BHSC) who would hold his nerve and get a 7.77pts ride in the dying minutes to turn the heat to post a heat total of 14.77pts over Finn’s 14.33pts in one of the most exciting heats of the day.

The U12s and U10s expression session took place on the Sunday in sunny weather and glassy conditions. Gabriel Noble (BSC) won the U12s division convincingly ahead of fellow Brocher Kai Cruickshank (BSC). Gabe posted a 15.10pts heat total in the final.

With Sandend being the last event of the season the SSF Series winners were decided. Rudi Forrest’s (BHSC) consistency and dedication would pay off, with event wins in Pease and Tiree to become the winner of the U12s series.

Also with two wins in each division, Ansel Parkin (BHSC) took top honours in the U14s and U16 Boys for the season!

Lola Mitchell (BSC) got the ultimate 3000pts total in the U16 Girls Series but Robyn Larg (TSC) did the same in the U18 Girls Series to pip Lola for top spot. Craig McLachlan (NSSC) also maxed out with 3000pts in U18 Boys and put in some fantastic performances over the course of the season.
