It’s been a while since the last time there was a surf competition in Aberdeen and what an amazing comeback we had yesterday! The Scottish Universities Surfing Championships event was a great example of what it’s all about. Lots of competitors, great camaraderie, lots of action in the lineup with two different surf competition zones, with the ladies on one side and the men on the other side, so the organisation was able to deliver the contest in one full day of competition. We were running against the tide, time was critical and once again the huge effort of everyone made this contest go ahead with great success. Women’s and Men’s heats were running simultaneously, with the poor judges not even getting a break for a wee coffee. We had glassy and sunny conditions in the morning, a very gentle onshore wind with some hailstones falling from the sky at midday and again glassy conditions for the finals. In between heats the crowd had a great time getting to meet new people, sharing stories and planing their next surf trip, getting that energy up after a cold can of Redbull, improving their surf technique on top of a surfskate, relaxing their mind and body in a mobile sauna in front of the beach and eating great food!
