Para Surf Scotland Series – Fraserburgh Highlights

On the 29th & 30th of June, we ran our first ever Para Surf Scotland adaptive surfing trainer and taster weekend in Fraserburgh! A mixed bag of weather, and very typical tiny Scottish summer waves made for tricky conditions but surfers, coaches, and volunteers all made the most of it.

Saturday kicked off with a taster session for a group of keen youngsters from the neurodiverse community, allowing many of them to try surfing and get in the sea for the very first time in a safe, supported, and fun environment. This session was made possible by SurfABLE and Inclusive Surfing Scotland leading the sessions – so a huge thanks to these brilliant charities.

Sunday gave some of Scotland’s upcoming and competitive Para Surfers (Jade, Karen, and Lilly) an opportunity to get together with their coaches for the first time since the ISA World Champs last year. Unfortunately the waves didn’t deliver many opportunities for progression or pushing their surfing ability, but a few wee waves and some paddle/swim fitness for everyone was still a great opportunity to catch up, work on some fitness, and get excited for the rest of the summer training events!

Huge thanks to everyone who helped out with this weekend, particularly Lainy and Russell Cruickshank and Broch Surf Club for letting us use the club house! Also, to Mark Grant for coming down to take some pictures on Saturday. Last but not least, Kev & Glyn at SurfABLE, Iain at Inclusive Surfing Scotland, our new volunteers (Jon, Will, and Lottie), and all of the SSF Para Surf committee – thanks for all your hard work and help on this event!

Already looking forward to the next event in St Andrews on the 17th August!
